Jazz and Brass Ensembles
We do have rehearsal this week (1/23-1/27/12) @ our normal time. Please plan on being there since we will have rehearsals cancelled due to the Helly Dolly production and the Gala concert is upon us, 3/24/12!

Hey Jazzers,
This is just a reminder that Music in the Parks trip deposit is due this week. Please make checks out to Smithtown HS West.
Tonight's rehearsal will also be in Cafe E. There will be an elementary concert going on tonight.

Attention All Students re: NYSSMA registration
Please be aware that NYSSMA registration forms and checks are due this Friday 1/13/12 for the solo festival in March/April. Allstate will take place March 30th & 31st and the regular solos will take place April 18th & 19th. Forms were handed out Jan. 3rd.

Concert Band Midterm.
Reminder: Mid term is during the week Jan.30-Feb.2, Mon- Thur. as per your selected 10 minute testing slot.
MID TERM Information;
Students should take care in planning and practicing with time to prepare for the upcoming exams.
First week of 3rd Quarter will be Mid Term week. Please be very aware of the compressed schedule of tests.
The Concert Band MID TERM will consist of 10 minute appointments selected by students over the course of the school day. Students should KNOW their other test schedules before signing up so as not to create a conflict with the Concert Band MID TERM. There will be no room for make ups.
Wind Players (Brass and Woodwind) must know 8 major scales with combinations of articulation.
Warm-up #2 @ metronome marking 116.
Chromatic Scale.
Section 9 counting and playing in 4/4 and cut time signatures. Qusrter note = 136, Half note=68
Difficult sections of selected Band music.
Percussionists must know all rudiments in place of scales with above requirements.
Mallet players must know 8 scales.

Very good job pulling together for the concert. You had some very musical moments!!
If we are going to have an after concert celebration please remember your $5 for regular pizza or $7 for gourmet slices for Wed. 1/4/12.

I hope that you had a great and restful Holiday while basking in the glow of your wonderful performances.
You did a very good job all around and I also want to thank you for all your help with the concert on the 20th. Thanks to you it was a successful evening.
Just a reminder that we are back to our rehearsal schedule on Tuesday evenings including tonight. We are currently preparing for the Gala concert with only 8 rehearsals so attendance is going to make or break us.
I look forward to seeing you.
